OUR MISSION:

PEAR TREE Avian Sanctuary provides placement for unwanted psittacines.  We rescue, rehabilitate, and adopt out relinquished parrots.  In extreme cases we offer a permanent home.  PEAR TREE offers parrot owners education and assistance with basic bird care, nutrition and behavior issues.

Parrot Education, Adoption, & Rehabiliation (PEAR) serves as a temporary sanctuary facility for exotic birds.  At PEAR TREE we strive to educate about the responsibilities of companion parrot ownership, as well as proper care techniques.  When a bird owner is unable to keep their pet, we provide the means to find a loving, suitable new home.

Avi-Adopt Collie for $25 by clicking below!

Collie is an 18 year old Severe Macaw. Severe Macaws are not full size macaws - they are the largest of the mini-macaws. Collie came to PEAR TREE in November of 2002. He had 2 previous owners that just could not handle him. Once he became sexually mature he was misunderstood and misbehaved. Screaming and biting fits would commence and his owners did not know how to deal with his behavior. After his quarantine period, Collie went through diet transition and behavior training. The diet he was on previously was increasing his already high hormone levels, thus adding to the problem. Once changed over to a stable diet, his behavior settled down as well. Once we earned his trust, he really came out of his shell and we began taking him to schools for socialization. He is now a permanent resident, an education bird, and our mascot!

Avi-Adopt Lou for $25 by clicking below!

Lou is an 8 year old, male Umbrella Cockatoo. He came to PEAR TREE Avian Sanctuary in March of 2007. His previous owners had to part with him due to schedule conflicts and life changes. Prior to his arrival, Lou plucked and barbed his feathers strongly due to lack of interaction and boredom. His feathers are starting to fill in on his chest and back, but the feathers on his wings and tail willtake awhile longer to grow, if he lets them. Lou also has a problem with recurring cloacal prolapse. Since his arrival he has undergone seven surgeries to help correct the problem. After much healing, his vent is significantly smaller than when we began. Since then he has only experienced minor difficulties. We have high hopes this most recent surgery will permanently resolve this problematic condition for Lou. Thanks to the help and care of our wonderful Avian Veterinarian, Dr. Hardy, Lou's medical expenses have beenextemely low considering the situation. Lou is an excellent education bird and he goes to classrooms on a regular basis.

Avi-Adopt Precious for $25 by clicking below!

Precious is a 9 year old Quaker Parakeet. PEAR TREE took in Precious in the Spring of 2005. She had been cage bound for a number of years and was a chronic egg layer prior to her arrival. She was very phobic and did not trust anyone. After her quarantine period, we began the diet transition process and behavior work. It took about 3 months, but Precious finally began coming out of her cage and flying around. She would not 'step up' but she would allow you to scoop her up in your hands and cuddle her. She still lays eggs occassionally, but we allow her to clutch and nest naturally, we do not pull them from her.  Now Precious is a permanent resident, and she is a fantastic education animal. She has a great time flying around and keeping everyone company.

Avi-Adopt Daisy for $25 by clicking below!

Daisy is a Blue and Gold Macaw. She was wild caught over 35 years ago so we do not know her true age. She was pinioned on one wing (partially amputated to permenantly prevent flight) prior to her arrival at our local zoo. She lived with her mate, a male Blue and Gold Macaw for 24 years in a large indoor/outdoor exhibit aviary. In the spring of 2007, a male iguana was introduced into their environment and a fight between the male macaw and the male iguana broke out. Unfortunately Daisy was caught in the middle - she was unable to get out of the way since she could not fly. The fight resulted in the loss of Daisy's other wing. It suffered severe damage and had to be amputated. Daisy was already missing a few toe nails from scuffles over the years with her cage mate and between the exhibit wire with the other parrots. With her complete loss of flight and most of her defenses, she was relinquished to PEAR TREE to retire. Here she will have the opportunity to live out her life, have indoor/outdoor access, and be around other birds. Daisy is not a handleable bird, but she is very sweet. She will gently accept food from our hands and watches intently as we handle and snuggle with the other birds around her. We have no expectations for her - only to be happy. Currently we are raising money to expand the current outdoor flight cage to give Daisy the best retirement possible.

Avi-Adopt Tristan for $25 by clicking below!

Tristan came to PEAR TREE in November of 2006 and although she was very phobic of new things, she has become quite friendly and truly desires attention.  She is beginning to become more comfortable with education programs and her socialization is going well.  We are still working on her feather growth, but after numerous tests and treatments, we are not certain she will ever regain feathers on her chest... they simply do not grow.  Originally Tristan was to be adopted out, but when we introduced Daisy, they became fast friends and now live together in our outdoor facility.  Tristan will continue to be used for educational programs for PEAR TREE.
